Local Flavor - Mitten Brewing Company

Grand Rapids, Michigan is known as Beer City USA with good reason. This medium sized mid-western town boasts over 80 craft breweries. One of our favorites is the MItten Brewing Company on the city's west side.

The Mitten is housed in the former Engine House #9. While it is still recognizable as an old fire station, the current decor is a baseball theme. Memorabilia from the Detroit Tigers adorns the walls. The waiting area has seats from the now demolished Tiger Stadium. Even the beer names are baseball related - Relief Session IPA, Triple Crown Brown, and Caught Lookin' Coconut Porter, to name a few. For non-beer drinkers there's a cider on tap called Rose' Conseco.

The brewery is also known for it's pizza, having been voted one of the top 10 pizzas in the state of Michigan by media outlet mLive. You can get a pizza flight to compliment your beer flight. Sample any six of their specialty pizzas, with names like Field of Greens and Thai Cobb. Or order an entire Chicken and Waffles pizza and wash it down with a pint of Country Strong IPA.
